Member Feature: June | Vancouver A Cappella

Only a week and a half until school starts! Are you ready? Here in Sweet Scarlet Land, we’re continuing on with weekly Sunday rehearsals, even when our various members are off on family vacations and getaways. But to keep everyone fresh in our memories, we thought we’d pass the summer months away with some Member Feature posts! Our fourth feature is the brilliant June.

June Iwagami-Pausche is a self-professed lover of show tunes and 80’s music, although she is actually a classically trained opera singer.  In her life outside of Sweet Scarlet, June is a much-loved teacher in Surrey, a mom to two adorable and talented girls, and a spouse to her supportive, lucky and loveable husband, Kevin. On days when she is not dedicated to mastering her mezzo soprano harmonies and Sweet Scarlet’s extensive repertoire, June can be found cheering her daughters one at their gymnastics and musical endeavours, or creating epic full-family Hallowe’en costumes that put the rest of Sweet Scarlet to shame.

June’s tell us that her favourite Sweet Scarlet songs to sing are “Hallelujah, The Parting Glass or any of those pieces that ends with a magical moment of silence, followed by an audible “sigh” or “mmm” from the audience. “

As with many other Sweet Scarlet members, June’s favourite memory with the group involves our experience at the International Choral Kathaumixw in 2016. She adored singing the huge group numbers together with the other choirs because it was “sooo magical!” We agree, June!

Sweet Scarlet is a Vancouver-based a cappella vocal ensemble that specializes in a variety of music, including contemporary pop, world music, jazz and classical. They are available for live performances anywhere in the Lower Mainland.
