Can you believe it’s August already? Here in Sweet Scarlet Land, we’re continuing on with weekly Sunday rehearsals, even when our various members are off on family vacations and getaways. But to keep everyone fresh in our memories, we thought we’d pass the summer months away with some Member Feature posts! Our third feature is the magnificent Katy.
Katy Cadman brags an impressive vocal resume, having performed at such iconic Vancouver locations as the Orpheum, the Vogue Theatre, the Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Queen Elizabeth Theatre; however, despite her many notable performance highlights, Katy is a down-to-earth, loveable, and oftentimes goofy member of Sweet Scarlet. In addition to adding her harmonies to the group, Katy is also the proud mama of two daughters and one son and wife to her supportive husband Dave.
When she’s not harmonizing with the Scarlettes, Katy spends her days enlightening hormonally-gifted teenagers as an English teacher and choral instructor in West Vancouver. She is also the conductor of the North Shore-based MomChoir.
Katy’s most cherished Sweet Scarlet memory is our breakfasts at the International Choral Kathaumixw in Powell River (shout-out to Edie Rae’s Café at the Old Courthouse. Inn!). She loved waking up to amazing food and company with her BFFs and singing soul sisters.
Her favourite Sweet Scarlet songs to perform are That Man or Fever. When asked why, she said, “I love performing these pieces because of the energy we bring to the stage and the performance aspect – and they are just danged fun to sing with their intricate harmonies. These pieces are deceptively hard!”
Sweet Scarlet is a Vancouver-based a cappella vocal ensemble that specializes in a variety of music, including contemporary pop, world music, jazz and classical. They are available for live performances anywhere in the Lower Mainland.
