Member Feature: Laura | Vancouver A Cappella

It’s almost autumn! This weekend, we officially say “Goodbye” to summer and “Hello” to fall! Here in Sweet Scarlet Land, we’re continuing on with weekly Sunday rehearsals, even while we try to keep track of all our busy mom schedules. But to keep everyone fresh in our memories, we thought we’d pass the summer months away with some Member Feature posts! Our sixth and final feature is the sassy Laura.

Laura Couling is one of Sweet Scarlet’s talented sopranos. She used to have time for unique hobbies like running marathons and making jewelry, but now she spend her days playing the important role of loving mama to her four (4!!!) children and wife to her charming hubby, Jay. Most often caught belting out oldies and TV show theme songs, in a variety of locations from her minivan to the shower, it’s easy to tell when Laura is happy because it usually involves a song.  When she’s not being supermom, she can also often be caught humming a tune in the hallways North Shore elementary schools, where she spends her days as a Learning Support Teacher, educating her adoring pupils on a wide variety of subjects from social skills to algebra.

When asked about her favourite Sweet Scarlet songs to sing, she had two: That Man “because I love how we all come together and the energy we create when we sing it,” and “Gloria because it’s so impressive and fun to sing.” As for her favourite Sweet Scarlet memory, she chose that glorious weekend up at her cabin on the Sunshine Coast, when we all took time away from our families to prepare for Kathaumixw. She loved the “feelings of camaraderie and love for each other” that came out of the weekend – we do too!
