After an evening of laughter, tears and song last Saturday, we are SO thrilled to announce that our event, It Takes a Village, raised over $11,000 for the Pacific Post Partum Support Society! Our incredible audience of over 300 people helped us to raise these funds through their ticket purchases and an amazing raffle at intermission.
Both Sweet Scarlet and MomChoir took to the stage to perform their own full-length sets, featuring inspiring songs like Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, Billy Joel’s “Lullabye”, The Wyrd Sisters’ “Warrior” and “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman.” Interspersed between the music were stories of motherhood, told by members of each group, touching on topics from pregnancy to post partum depression. To say that it was an overwhelming and inspiring evening would be an understatement. Many tears were shed, many hugs were given and so many stories were shared.
We ended the evening with a beautiful joint performance of The Rankin Family’s “We Rise Again”, and we suspect there was not a dry eye in the house. You can catch a video of this performance on our Facebook page. You can also check out the beautiful slideshow of the motherhood portraits taken by eran jayne photography, featuring encouraging messages from each member of Sweet Scarlet and MomChoir.
A huge Sweet Scarlet thank-you to our very own Katy Cadman, who spearheaded and coordinated this evening. She inspires each and every one of us so much, and we are so proud of this magical evening that she put together.
Further thank-you’s go out to all the raffle donors, event volunteers, venue staff, our MC Lindsay Willms, and all our friends and family who attended and/or help us pursue our love of singing and performing!
